Elect John Larkin for Wayne County
Circuit Court Judge
When Experience Matters
Dear Voter,
Thank you for visiting my website. I appreciate you taking the time during this busy election season to learn more about me.
NON-PARTISAN
Many of you have asked whether I am a Democrat or Republican, a liberal or conservative, or where I stand on certain issues. According to the Rules of Judicial Conduct, a judicial candidate is not permitted to take a position on any issue that may come before the court. Otherwise, he or she will be disqualified from those cases. In order to avoid being disqualified, judicial candidates avoid taking a position. Judges should be impartial, fair, listen to the facts and arguments presented to them. Thus, a candidate should only be judged based on his or her experience and reputation.
I do, however, believe in helping people get back on their feet, including through resources such as mental health, substance abuse, or veterans courts but dangerous people should not be out on our streets.
You will see that I have been endorsed by many unions, organizations, and 25 judges and 44 elected officials from both political affiliations. They have evaluated my qualifications and determined that based on my experience and demeanor that I am the best candidate. I am grateful for all these endorsements.
MOST EXPERIENCED
With 33 years of legal practice, I am the most experienced candidate on the ballot, with over 17 years more experience than my opponent. I have practiced in almost every area of legal practice, and have helped people through their most challenging times and developed a comprehensive skill set in both criminal and civil law. My three decades of practice have encompassed a broad range of areas, including bankruptcy, landlord-tenant disputes, collection suits, consumer protection, civil rights, license restoration, property law, and personal injury cases. There is no area of law that my practice has not touched or that I am unable to navigate.
JUDICIAL TEMPERAMENT
Equally important is the temperament required for this seat. A judge must be fair, patient, and apply the law impartially. I have worked my entire career to uphold the highest level of integrity and ethics, and I will uphold the law with fairness, impartiality and patience. As retired Wayne County Circuit Court Chief Judge Tim Kenny stated, “John is a man of character, patience, and kindness. He will make an excellent judge.”
COMMUNITY SERVICE
I am a lifelong Wayne County resident and have grown up in a family where giving back to the community is a must. This commitment is reflected in over 20 years of pro bono service at Detroit’s Most Holy Trinity Legal Clinic, 2 medical missions to Bangladesh and 2 missions to Mexico, volunteering with organizations such as Ark Food Bank, Trumbull Soup Kitchen, Livonia Rotary, and Knights of Columbus, and coaching youth hockey teams and amateur boxers. I have also held leadership positions in the Livonia Bar Association, and I’m a longstanding member of the Detroit Bar Association and Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers. My hope is to have made a difference in the lives of others, no matter how small, and to leave a positive impact on both the legal profession and the Wayne County community.
I thank my wife of 29 years, Soraya, whom I met in law school; our three adult children, Caitlyn, Veronica, and John; and our two loving rescue dogs, Nori who is deaf and Trudee. who is partially blind. Without their support, this campaign would not be possible.
If I am privileged to be elected, I commit to upholding the law with fairness, justice, reason, and respect. I humbly ask you for your vote.
Sincerely,
John Larkin
